Members of Southampton High School’s Mariners Patriot Club, including from left, Angelina Pino, Ashley Rios Castro and Kevin Lopez Urbano, were on hand at the Water Mill Classic Car Expo on September 6, connecting with the community and sharing information about upcoming events that support local veterans. Among them are the Veterans Appreciation Dinner on October 29 and the 200 Turkeys for 200 Veterans program in November. Hampton Bays Elementary School honored the anniversary of 9/11 with its annual Patriot Day memorial ceremony. As part of the ceremony, fourth graders shared original poems and essays reflecting on what it means to be a hero and performed patriotic songs. The program also featured the presentation of a memorial wreath by the Hampton Bays Fire Department, along with remarks from local officials. This year’s event included a special celebration of the 101st birthday of Sylvia Catena Smith, an active member of the Hampton Bays American Legion Auxiliary, Unit 924.
