Scott William Van Hoesen of Marathon Key, Florida, and Westhampton Beach died on April 23. He was 37 years old.
Mr. Van Hoesen was born in Southampton on September 2, 1976, the son of Carol Thorne and the late Gary Van Hoesen. He graduated from Westhampton Beach High School in 1995 and went on to receive his degree in turf management from Rutgers University in New Jersey. He worked for years cooking at Magic’s Pub in Westhampton Beach and as a member of the grounds crew at Westhampton Beach Country Club. In 2012 he and his family moved to Marathon Key, where he graduated from Florida Keys Community College in Key West, then passed the state officer certification exam and was working as a corrections officer.
Survivors said he was an amazing son, brother, father, uncle and friend. He enjoyed making others laugh and spending time with his family. He was an avid Yankees fan and golfer.
Mr. Van Hoesen is survived by his wife, Tara Van Hoesen of Marathon Key; a son, Michael, and two daughters, Lauren and Bryleigh. He is also survived by his mother, Carol Thorne of Westhampton Beach; and two sisters, Christy Salerno of East Quogue and Corinne Arrasate of Westhampton Beach; along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
The family received friends and relatives on April 30 at Follett and Werner Funeral Home in Westhampton Beach. A funeral Mass was held at the Church of the Immaculate Conception on May 1.
