Sean Scanlon of Sag Harbor, and originally from Southampton, died at Stony Brook Hospital on May 19. He was 70.
He was hospitalized last year after a health induced automobile accident and eventually admitted to a rehabilitation center in Southampton. After a few months stay and almost ready to return home, he experienced other health issues and unfortunately did not improve.
He will be missed, his family said. Some might remember him as one of the first local chimney sweeps. He always arrived to a job in his top hat and tails.
He also showed off his creativity with his Montauk St. Patrick’s Day parade floats with a 6-foot dancing leprechaun on the front of his van.
But he will be remembered most for his fantastic boat parties. He also threw great Halloween parties and black tie Christmas parties, both of which had an admission price of a can of food or some other kind of food item that were then donated to a local food pantry.
“Thank you to all who donated and supported him in his last days,” his family said.
In the words of Gene Casey, “Nobody threw a party like Sean Scanlon.”
Cremation will be private and details of an “imitation Sean Scanlon party” will be announced shortly.
