The Bridgehampton Fire Department responded to a house fire on Jobs Lane in Bridgehampton in the early morning hours on Sunday to knock down a large and active house fire.

According to Bridgehampton Fire Department Chief Tom Federico, the department got the call around 4 a.m. and when firefighters arrived on the scene, half the house was engulfed in flames. A neighbor had made the call after seeing flames coming from the home, which was unoccupied at the time.

It took firefighters a little under an hour to put out the fire, Federico said. While an exact cause of the fire is still under investigation, he said that the fire started in the garage. He also said that it looked like construction had been recently completed at the home, with staining and varnishing of the outdoor deck area having been done recently, but he added they weren’t sure yet if that was related to the cause of the fire.

There was extensive damage to half the house, Federico said, and a good portion of the second floor.

In addition to Bridgehampton, several nearby departments responded to the scene to provide aid, including the North Sea Fire Department, Sag Harbor Fire Department, East Hampton Fire Department, and a rapid intervention team from the Amagansett Fire Department.

There were no injuries reported.
