The Shinnecock Nation first demanded back in December, when the Southampton Town Board voted to sue the tribe to halt construction of a gas station in Hampton Bays, that the tribal seal be removed from the People's Room at Southampton Town Hall. Since then, Tribal Chairwoman Lisa Goree, who works at Town Hall, has submitted two written requests that the seal be removed and last week Lance Gumbs, the vice chairman of the Shinnecock's Council of Trustees, renewed the demand.
