Solid Slate

The Democratic slate of local candidates looks pretty compelling this year.

Ann Welker has done a host of good things for us in the Suffolk County Legislature, many aimed at preserving our precious environment. I don’t think we could have a better representative in this important body.

Through perseverance and a willingness to work with all, Southampton Town Supervisor Maria Moore has achieved more in two years than one might have thought possible. If we elect Tom Neely, with his highly relevant experience, to the Town Council, Maria and Tom will join to meet our housing, traffic and water quality challenges.

Town clerk candidate Mark Bernardo will bring a much needed background in big-budget management and advanced technology to the position. He will see that the clerk’s office adapts to today’s changed environment by, for one example, ensuring that effective measures are taken against hacking.

The Democrats’ Town Trustees slate is especially impressive. Heading it are Matt Parsons and Joe McLoughlin, two serving Trustees with proven records of cooperative action and achievement. They’re followed by Southampton native Jimmy Mack, a longtime EMT and Ocean Rescue responder dedicated to the health of our shoreline and waters.

The Trustees team is completed by two native daughters who grew up on the water and treasure it as only people with that background can, Hannah Pell-O’Farrell and Sara Topping.

Taken all together, these folks make a very persuasive argument to vote Row A all the way.

Early voting is open now through November 2, and Election Day is November 4.
