Sophie Karkut Of Westhampton Beach Dies July 25

Sophie (Karpovek) Karkut died on July 25. She was 93.

Ms. Karkut was born July 8, 1923, in Westhampton Beach, where she spent most of her life. She met her husband John Karkut and lived in Bayonne, New Jersey, where they raised their two children, John Karkut of North Carolina and Karen Frano of Westhampton Beach. The family spent summers in Westhampton Beach in the home where she and her siblings were born.

She is survived by a sister, Jean Tocko; four grandsons, Jason Karkut of California, Michael Karkut of South Carolina, Stephen Frano of Hawaii, and Jeffrey Frano of Westhampton Beach; and four great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Holden, and Weston Karkut of South Carolina, and Julia Frano of Hawaii. A brother, Charles Karpovek, predeceased her.

Memorial donations may be made to any animal rescue or humane society.
