Sophie Olender of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, formerly of Southampton, died on June 20, of cancer and surrounded by her family. She was 49.
Ms. Olender’s greatest source of pride and joy were her children, Ayden and Olivia, who gave her strength when she became ill, survivors said. Her second passion was her love of nature and flowers, which blossomed into a long career as a floral designer. She carried her love of flowers and beautiful things to her home where she created a garden near her porch where she often sat with her tea, enjoying the tranquil setting she had created.
Ms. Olender was predeceased by her parents, Jozef and Zofia Olender; a brother, Stanley Olender; and four brothers and a sister in Poland. She is survived by a son, Ayden Tarrant-Willis; and a daughter, Olivia McLysaght of South Carolina; brothers Tony Olender of Southampton, Henry Olender of Florida and Frank Olender of South Carolina; a sister, Manya Olender-Murphy of South Carolina; nephews Adam Olender of West Virginia, Michael Olender of Poughkeepsie, Anthony Olender of Southampton, Harrison Murphy, Brandon Olender and Devon Olender of South Carolina; nieces Joanne Ference of New Jersey, Dana Olender of Mastic, Morgan Murphy of Southampton, and Jacqueline Olender of South Carolina, Charlotte Ford of New York City and Anna Murphy of South Carolina; as well as 10 great-nieces and great-nephews.
A memorial and internment will be held in Southampton at a later date.
