Your editorial, “Two Sides of a Coin” [November 7], captured a concern each of us has had regarding the behavior of the new mayor of the Village of Southampton. We have all fielded calls and comments over the past several months from many concerned citizens over process, lack of transparency, treatment of employees and fellow board members, and the lack of respect for the office of the mayor.
While change is good when it is proactive, reactive change can be destructive. We hope the new mayor heeds the comments in your editorial, because your advice is sound.
We also hope that the coin he flips is not the same on both sides.

As one of U.S. Representative Lee Zeldin’s constituents who wants to know what our elected representatives are up (or down) to, I read his latest “Dear Joan” email about the recent rioting at the Capitol with sadness and anger. I...
Clean It Up
Once a year, I clean all of Butter Lane, from Scuttle Hole Road to Montauk Highway. This year, I accumulated 13 garbage bags of street refuse, two times more than any prior year. It it me or is our town...

Joe Biden, October 15, 2020: “We’re eight months into this pandemic, and Donald Trump still doesn’t have a plan to get this virus under control. I do.” Joe Biden, January 22, 2021: “There is nothing we can do to change...
Rare And Priceless
Southampton Town is now considering what would be a very wise use of our Community Preservation Fund. A 4-acre, mostly wooded property, owned by the Magidoff family, has 700 feet of frontage on Ligonee Creek, in addition to bridging two...

A Sign Of Change?
Usually, when I quote reader Ed Surgan in one of my missives, it is a prelude to a rant on how misguided I think his position on a given topic is. But not today. In his most recent Letter to...
