Nicole Meringola, a 2010 graduate of Southampton High School, graduated from Quinnipiac University in Connecticut on Sunday, May 18. In addition, Nicole was presented with the Alumni Association Academic Achievement Award for attaining the highest academic standing in the School of Health Sciences. Nicole, an occupational therapy major, graduated with a 3.99 grade point average.When asked about this incredible achievement, Nicole said that receiving the award “is further motivation for me to continue with my studies as well as strengthens my dedication to the field.” She will continue her studies next year with graduate school. Congratulations and good luck, Nicole! This is a remarkable accomplishment.

Another Southampton High School graduate deserves recognition this week. Julia Leef graduated magna cum laude from Skidmore College, in upstate New York, on Saturday, May 17, and was elected into the national honor society Phi Beta Kappa. She received a Bachelor of Arts in English and Spanish. Julia graduated from Southampton High School in 2010. Congratulations, Julia, on this great accomplishment and good luck in all of your future endeavors.

And finally, Laura Gelb, also a 2010 graduate of Southampton High School, graduated from Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, May 18, with a Bachelor of Arts in history and minors in Spanish and Latin American and Caribbean Studies. She was also named to the dean’s list for the spring 2014 semester. Congratulations, Laura!

The local chapter of Masons will celebrate 100 years of serving the community on Saturday, June 7, with an open house and rededication. The lodge is located at 40 Main Street in Southampton.

Julia Enstine celebrated her 100th birthday last month, on May 21. To mark this momentous occasion, she enjoyed a week of festivities, including lunches and dinners, with many family and friends. Happy belated birthday, Julia!

This past week was a very exciting one, as my good friend Owen Murphy returned from Air Force basic training at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. He is a part of the 106th National Guard, based out of Westhampton Beach. Owen is also a member of the Southampton Fire Department, Agawam Hose company. Welcome home, Owen!

Looking for something to do this weekend? Why not get out and enjoy the expected beautiful weather and run or walk a 5K for a great cause! Christopher’s Run, a 5K run/walk in memory of Christopher Lesta, will be held on Saturday, June 7, at 9 a.m. at Agawam Park in Southampton. Plus, fun run for kids, Chinese auction, silent auction and raffles. Registration fee is $30, or $25 in advance and $5 for kids fun run. The Southampton High School choir will hold a “pops” concert on Tuesday, June 10, at 7 p.m. at the Southampton Cultural Center. Come out and support these hardworking students as they perform both choir and solo vocals and guitar ensembles. Admission is free. At The LibraryThe Rogers Memorial Library will offer Jazz on the Patio on Thursday, June 5, at 6 p.m. with the Adam Larson Quartet, featuring Adam Larson on saxophone, Nils Weinhold on guitar, Raviv Markovitz on bass, and Jason Burger on drums.

Nikki DeMatteo, OT Coordinator at Southampton Hospital, and Lynn Bennett, COTA/L, will be at the library on Friday, June 6, at 10:15 a.m. to talk about arthritic changes in aging and treatment approaches for pain and stiffness reduction.

Cellist Antonio Lysy and pianist Neal Stulberg will perform works by Bach, Messiaen, Debussy, Veprik, Mansurian and Schumann at the library on Sunday, June 15, at 3 p.m. A reception will follow.

Shannon, of Sea Green Designs, will lead a workshop on “One Step Painting” at the Southampton Historical Museum on Thursday, June 19, at 6 p.m. The cost is $25 for members, $30 for non members.

CMEE To Host Family New Year's Eve Event

The Children’s Museum of the East End in Bridgehampton will ring in 2026 with a daytime New Year’s Eve celebration designed especially for young families. The museum will host its annual New Year’s Eve Bash on Wednesday, December 31, from 10 a.m. to noon.
