Southampton Native Betsy James Dies May 27

Betsy E. James

Betsy E. James of Selden died on May 27 at the Peconic Bay Medical Center. She was 72.

Born on September 12, 1940, in Southampton, she was the daughter of George and Evelyn Hawkins. She retired many years ago from her job as an administrator at the Love ’M Shelter for the homeless in Riverhead.

Ms. James is survived by two sons, Joe Miller of Hampton Bays and Bobby Miller of the Bronx; four daughters, Alice “Missy” Young of Riverhead, Orenda “Randy” Cassero of Shirley, Sabrina Milz of Riverhead and Danielle Roberts of Shirley; 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She is also survived by a sister, Rose Faro of North Carolina.

No funeral services are planned. Arrangements were under the direction of the Reginald H. Tuthill Funeral Home in Riverhead.

Southampton DWI Arrests for the Week of December 12

William Campos Lopez, 26, of Speonk was arrested on December 8, at 3:40 a.m., by Quogue Village Police charged him with aggravated DWI, a misdemeanor. He was pulled over after being observed speeding and failing to maintain his lane on Montauk Highway, police said.
