Scholar-Athletes
Southampton had eight teams qualify as a New York State Public High School Athletic Association Scholar-Athlete Team this past fall. In order to qualify as a team, 75 percent of its average GPA for the season must be equal to or greater than 90 percent. Those teams included boys/girls cross country, boys golf, boys/girls soccer, field hockey, girls tennis and girls volleyball. Student-athletes can also earn Scholar-Athlete individual honors by earning an individual average of 90 or above, whether their team qualified or not. Although specific names were not released, 87 Mariners earned the distinction.
