SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE — A community member stopped into Southampton Village Police headquarters on September 20 reporting an attempted phone scam. He received suspicious calls that seem to come from local numbers. When he answers, a recording alerts him to “suspicious activity” on his credit card and directs him to “press 1.” He didn’t feel comfortable doing that and has checked all his accounts. No unusual charges were found and police advised him to continue to monitor his accounts.
HAMPTON BAYS — James Licauci, 53, of Riverside faces a misdemeanor count of third-degree assault following an altercation at a West Montauk Highway location. Southampton Town Police said he got into a disagreement with another man over a bicycle. As the altercation ratcheted up, Licauci charged the victim, tossing him to the ground and hitting him with his hands and feet, police said. The fracas occurred on September 20 and police found Licauci at the train station shortly thereafter.
NOYAC — Southampton Town Police report yet another pricey ride purloined — this one a 2013 Mercedes-Benz wagon taken from a driveway on Pine Crest Lane sometime between 1 and 8 a.m. on September 20. Police have repeatedly beseeched community members to lock their cars and secure key fobs to avoid the epidemic of car thefts and the thefts of items from unlocked cars.
NORTH SEA — A Rose Avenue resident contacted Southampton Town Police on September 20, reporting a wallet containing cash and credit cards had been stolen from an unlocked vehicle during the overnight hours.
BRIDGEHAMPTON — Someone stole two designer handbags from a Montauk Highway store on September 20. Southampton Town Police are investigating.
WATER MILL — On September 25, a victim of theft contacted Southampton Town Police reporting that he went fishing on Flying Point Road and left his pants, with his wallet zipped into a pocket, nearby on the ground. A car pulled up and while two of the occupants engaged him in conversation, another three of the vehicle’s inhabitants stayed near where his pants were. When he finished fishing, he discovered his wallet, which contained $600 in cash as well as all his ID, was gone.
