Suffolk County Police on Monday arrested a Riverside man they said stabbed his girlfriend to death at a Riverside home. According to a release sent out Tuesday morning, Southampton Town Police initially responded to a call at 48 Ludlam Avenue at 11:07 p.m. after an occupant of the home called police to report the stabbing. Police said Bayron Fajardo-Gonzalez stabbed his girlfriend, Tania Fox, 45. Ms. Fox was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead, where she was pronounced dead. New York State Police are investigating a Sunrise Highway crash in Eastport that claimed the life of one victim Monday morning. At approximately 5:39 a.m. Troopers were alerted to a collision between a box truck and a tractor trailer in the eastbound lane near Exit 62 in Eastport. The drivers of both vehicles were injured and transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center for treatment. The passenger of the box truck was pronounced dead at the scene. Quogue Village Police have launched a speed enforcement blitz in conjunction with statewide Speed Awareness Week, which runs from August 6 to 12. Organized by the New York State Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee, the intensified enforcement effort against speeding drivers underscores the severity of the problem, both locally and across the nation. “Speed translates to death on our roadways. It greatly reduces a driver’s ability to steer safely around another vehicle, a hazardous object or an unexpected curve. An apparent fender bender snarled traffic on Sunrise Highway Tuesday morning. Details were unavailable. “We’re still working on the investigation,” said Lieutenant Jose Febo of the New York State Police. It appears a bus was rear-ended going over the Shinnecock Canal in Hampton Bays. State Police could offer no time or exact nature of the accident, but said the scene had been cleared by 9 a.m. Southampton Town Police were first on the scene, but the State Troopers were the lead agency.
