The partially decomposed body of an unidentified man washed ashore on Plum Island in Gardiners Bay on Thursday afternoon.
According to Suffolk County Police, a private security guard patrolling the perimeter of the federal disease research center discovered the body on a beach at the southwest end of the island at about 4:15 p.m.
The body is that of a man, approximately 6 feet 2 inches tall “with a large build and very long fingers,” according to the description of the body released by police. He was wearing green cargo pants with the words “God Body Collection” inscribed on the buttons, a light green short-sleeved shirt and brown loafers. He was wearing a belt buckle inscribed with the words “Stacey Adams.”
There were no obvious signs of trauma on the body, police said.
The body was taken to the Suffolk County Medical Examiners office in Hauppauge where an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. Police said they do not have reason to suspect foul play behind the death.
