Due to the widespread devastation in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, area organizations are setting up ways for the community to help out with relief efforts. (If you know of a local organization not listed, please send an email to mailbag@pressnewsgroup.com with the information.)
T-shirts For Sandy Victims: Local residents Jennifer Davis, Anthony Cardona and Scott Massey have created royal blue “Sandy” T-shirts available on their website, sewlastyear.com, for $20 each, to benefit the child victims of Hurricane Sandy. All profits will go to make sure kids will have basic necessities along with presents to open this upcoming holiday season. Funds will first go to help children in New York beach communities, such as Long Beach, the Rockaways and Breezy Point. The group will expand their reach with more sales. In addition to the first T-shirt created, the site will feature in the upcoming weeks other artists donating their designs to further benefit victims.
Hurricane Relief Fund: Donations for Staten Island residents will be accepted at all three Bridgehampton National Bank branches in Southampton, the Zima Tire Center in Speonk, Aspatuck Gardens in Westhampton, the East Quogue United Methodist Church in East Quogue, Jack’s Stir Brew in Amagansett Square, and Shinnecock Hardware in Hampton Bays. Items such as winter clothing, toiletries, non-perishable food, baby items and cleaning supplies are requested. Gift Cards and Non-Perishables: C’s Home Cleaning is accepting non-perishable foods, diapers, feminine products, toiletries and such for victims of Sandy. No clothing please. You can drop off your donation at 3331 Noyac Road in Sag Harbor. Call 725-2408 for more information.
Staten Island Drive: Goat On A Boat Puppet Theatre, located at 4 Hampton Street in Sag Harbor, is teaming up with Holy Trinity/St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church of Staten Island to collect items to help residents affected by Hurricane Sandy. Winter clothing for adults and children, shoes, towels, toiletries, blankets, backpacks, baby items as well as non-perishable food items are requested. Call 725-4193 for more information.
Food And Water Donations: Bay Street Theatre in Sag Harbor will be a drop-off location for non-perishable food and bottled water donations for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. Donations can be dropped off in the lobby from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Call 725-0818 or send an email to tim@baystreet.org for more information.
Gift Cards Needed: Times For Teens is collecting gift cards to be distributed to victims of Hurricane Sandy through neighborhood churches. Everything that is donated will be shared with Time For Teens. Gift cards can be sent to Time For Teens at P.O. BOX 552 Southampton, NY, 11969. Monetary donations will also be accepted.
Gift Card Drive: The Hampton Bays Mothers’ Association is spearheading a gift card drive to help families who have lost everything due to Hurricane Sandy. Gift cards will distributed to victims of Hurricane Sandy through neighborhood churches. Cards are being requested in lieu of physical donations because of a lack of storage space. Gift cards can be dropped off at Scotto’s on Main Street in Hampton Bays, Arthur Murrary, Southampton Stationery, Stevenson’s Toys and The Southampton Publick House in Southampton, C’s Home and Office Management and Sag Harbor Garden Center in Sag Harbor, Katherine and Co. in Westhampton Beach, and Agaves in Bridgehampton. Recovery Fund: In partnership with United Way USA, the United Way of New York City has established the United Way Hurricane Sandy Recovery Fund to address the near-term and long-term recovery needs of individuals, families and communities along the Eastern Seaboard that were impacted by Hurricane Sandy’s devastation. Contributions to the fund will be used by eastern chapters of United Way and locally in Long Island. Volunteers Needed: The Red Cross needs volunteers at shelters on Long Island and in New York City. They will provide training for anyone who can help.
