Kiteboarder's Body Found In Napeague Harbor On Sunday

The body of a kiteboarder was found in Napeague Harbor by Lazy Point Road in Amagansett on Sunday afternoon, according to East Hampton Town Police.

Nicholas Valtz, 39, of Brooklyn failed to return to a Bridgehampton residence where he was staying.

Family members went looking for him and he was found by friends a little after 2 p.m. floating in the water secured to his kite and gear in a grassy area of the harbor.

Chief Sarlo said it appears Mr. Valtz had been kiteboarding alone. He said he was not reported missing but was “overdue” from his excursion. The amount of time Mr. Valtz had been gone is still part of an open investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call 631-537-7575.
