Dune Road in Hampton Bays was closed Wednesday night from the Ponquogue Bridge in both directions through East Quogue due to flooding. Southampton Town Police announced the closure at 11:52 p.m. on Wednesday, January 25. As of 5:41 Thursday morning, it remained closed. According to the National Weather Service, rain is expected to clear Thursday with scattered showers continuing until about 7 a.m. The service reported a temperature of 52 degrees as of 5:50 a.m. It’s supposed to stay unseasonably balmy throughout the day, though temps may drop to the 40s, with a high of 46 predicted for Thursday. by Staff Writer

Riverhead Man Charged in Flanders Assault

Francisco Hernandez-Urizar, 24, of Riverhead faces a felony assault charge following an incident in Flanders Saturday night. On January 14, at approximately 7:41 p.m., the Southampton Town Police Department Communications Division received a 911 call reporting a 21-year-old man was the victim of violence. Police responded to a Flanders Road and Wildwood Trail location in the hamlet and found the victim. He’d sustained a puncture wound from a metal object and blunt force trauma, according to Town Police. The Flanders mother who drove high and crashed on Flanders Road last winter, resulting in the death of her 4-year-old daughter, was sentenced on Wednesday, December 14, to one to three years in prison. In October, Amy Wesolowski, 35, pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter and felony DWI. Her daughter, Gracelyn Perkowski, died of her injuries three days after the crash.
