SAG HARBOR — A large gathering of roughly 30 people fishing under the Lance Corporal Jordan C. Haerter Veterans Memorial Bridge prompted response from Village Police on May 23 at 1:37 a.m. According to police, many of the 30 people fishing were doing so without licenses and had accumulated an abundance of garbage. Police asked the individuals to leave the area immediately and pick up the trash before they left the scene. Car Fire Stalls Westbound Commute On Sunrise Highway Thursday Afternoon

A car fire Thursday afternoon backed rush hour traffic up on Sunrise Highway and Montauk Highway in Southampton. Flames erupted from a Jeep Liberty traveling westbound just east of Flanders Road, Route 24, at 4:01 p.m. closing Sunrise Highway for approximately 20 minutes, according to New York State Police. With the fire brought under control, the left lane was opened after 20 minutes, with both lanes reopened after 30 minutes, according to the Troopers. Mastic Beach Man Suspected In String Of Thefts From Parked Cars In Hampton Bays

Southampton Town Police believe they captured a culprit in a string of thefts from parked cars that took place this spring in a Hampton Bays neighborhood. On Friday night at 10:45 p.m. police said they saw Richard J. Kruger, 26, of Mastic Beach, break into a vehicle parked in a driveway near the intersection of Palo Alto Drive and Westerley Court and attempt to steal something, according to a police report. DWI Reports For The Week Of May 21

Rigoberto Perez Valdespino, 22, of Sag Harbor was charged with DWI on Saturday night, May 16, following a motor vehicle accident on Ferry Road in North Haven. At approximately 9 p.m., Southampton Town Police were alerted to the crash, and arrived on the scene to find a 2020 Chevy Silverado pickup with heavy rear and front end damage in the front yard of a home. Police said Mr. Valdespino performed poorly on roadside sobriety tests.
