UPDATE: Saturday, 11:20 a.m.:
A barn was destroyed and one firefighter was injured in a fire on North Main Street in Southampton Village Saturday morning, according to Chief Brenner.
The Southampton Village Fire Department received a call about a structure fire at 8:17 a.m.
A man, in his 50s, was sleeping inside the house attached to the burning barn at the time and a firefighter went inside to wake him up and get him out of the house, explained Chief Brenner. The unidentified man was not injured from the fire, Chief Brenner said.
It took firefighters about one hour to put out the flames. The Hampton Bays Fire Department, the North Sea Fire Department, and Southampton Village Police also responded to the scene. Southampton Village Fire Chief Mike Kampf was in charge of the scene.
One North Sea firefighter was brought to Southampton Hospital for non-life threatening injuries after the fire, but was quickly discharged.
"The firemen did a great job extinguishing," Chief Brenner said. "Braving the elements is always tough, but the members did a great job.
"The conditions were frigid but nothing froze over, no hoses. Just, again, everyone did a great job. We had Hampton Bays and North Sea at the scene too."
