Police in Tennessee are asking for information on any criminal activity committed by a man they recently arrested on charges of child rape, sexual abuse of a child, sexual battery of a minor, sexual exploitation of a minor and sexual battery by an authority figure, among other charges. The defendant is now a Tennessee resident but formerly lived on Long Island, in Hampton Bays and Baldwin. A Southampton man was arrested and indicted in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred on March 6 on Springville Road in Hampton Bays. The Southampton Town Police Department Detective Division announced on Friday afternoon that Benjamin J. Sheen-Waltzer, 32, turned himself in to police after a months-long investigation into the accident that resulted in the death of Angel M. Asitimbay, 67. Sheen-Waltzer is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injuries resulting in death, and tampering with physical evidence, both felonies. Southampton Town Police and the Suffolk County Crime Stoppers are asking for the public’s help to identify two people who stole merchandise from the Macy’s department store in Hampton Bays last month. The pair, a man and a woman who were captured on the store’s security cameras, stole several items of clothing from the store shortly before 8 p.m. on October 19, authorities said. A Legal Aid Society investigator’s lawsuit brought against Southampton Village to obtain police department rules and regulations has been resolved after the police department supplied the requested documents, with redactions. The investigator, Richard Burns, filed a Freedom of Information request in person at the Southampton Village Police Department in January and made the same request of several other East End police departments that month. Southampton Village was the only municipality to tell him that it would take nearly a full year for his request to be fulfilled. Two Southampton Town Police officers have filed separate lawsuits this fall alleging discrimination against them by department superiors over long periods of time. Both lawsuits claim that the officers, Nelson Gonzalez and John Giambone, have seen their career advancement constrained by discrimination against them by their superiors, been issued unwarranted internal punishments, been subject to verbal insults and, in the case of Giambone, a physical one.
