Man Dies After Being Found Unresponsive on Sagaponack Beach

Emergency responders who were called to report of a missing swimmer in Sagaponack on October 4 found a 73-year-old Swiss man unconscious on the beach nearby. Police say the man was declared dead a short time later. Southampton Town Police say they received a 911 call at about 3:30 p.m. that afternoon reporting that a man was missing after having gone swimming in the ocean off Gibson Lane. A 28-year-old motorcyclist was killed on Speonk-Riverhead Road on Wednesday night, October 9, after apparently losing control of his motorbike and crashing into a wooded area on the side of the road. Woman Charged With Grand Larceny in Jewelry Theft

Westhampton Beach Police, with the help of the Suffolk County District Attorney’s office and the NYPD, arrested Derly Herrera, 46, of Queens Village and charged her with second degree grand larceny related to the theft of more than $200,000 worth of jewelry from a vendor at an art show on the Great Lawn in Westhampton Beach over Labor Day weekend. A Quogue resident and owner of a local bus company pleaded guilty in federal court last week to federal fraud and conspiracy charges related to a years-long “check kiting” scheme that prosecutors say defrauded two banks out of some $9.6 million.
