UPDATE: Saturday, 10:30 p.m.:
Patrick J. Helmer of Rockland County was arrested on Saturday for breaking into the back of Sag Harbor Variety Store.
Mr. Helmer was arrested near the Main Street store and charged with third degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, both felonies, fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property, possession of burglary tools, and petit larceny, all misdemeanors, according to a New York State Police press release.
ORIGINAL STORY:
Police are investigating a Friday night break-in at Sag Harbor Variety Store.
Chief Austin McGuire, of Sag Harbor Village Police, said an individual broke in through the rear of the Main Street building at about 7:45 p.m. Friday.
The back door to the variety store was smashed and a cash register was found in a nearby dumpster.
New York State Police also responded to the scene.
No additional information was immediately available.
