New York State Police are investigating a shooting that occurred on the Shinnecock Territory Saturday night. According to a release sent out on Sunday, the incident took place at about 11:39 p.m. Saturday. A 21-year-old man, who police said was not a member of the Shinnecock Nation, was shot in the leg and taken to an area hospital for what police said was a non-life-threatening wound. Charged With Felony Attempted Rape and Sexual Abuse

Raul P. Cruz, 32, of Southampton was arrested by Southampton Village Police on June 29 on Windmill Lane. He was charged with first degree attempted rape and first degree sexual abuse, both violent felonies. The victim was juvenile at the time of the crime, which occurred about two years ago, and known to Mr. Cruz. Police said an order of protection has been put in place. Not three hours after they responded to a stabbing in Riverside on Thursday, June 25, Southampton Town Police were called to a second, and unrelated, assault in Flanders. Demoy Ashwood, 28, of Flanders, was arrested by Town Police at approximately 7:15 p.m. near Priscilla Avenue, and charged with second degree assault, a felony, along second degree menacing and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon, all misdemeanors. Daniel Hughes, 39, the homeless man who was charged in January in the death of Wayne Sapiane, was stabbed multiple times in Riverside, Southampton Town Police reported Wednesday evening, June 24.
