Yancy Butler Charged With Driving While Intoxicated In Sag Harbor

authorStaff Writer on Apr 4, 2017

Actress Yancy Butler was arrested in Sag Harbor on Monday afternoon when she was found passed out drunk behind the wheel of a vehicle that she drove onto the sidewalk of Main Street, according to police.

Sag Harbor Village Police also said that after she was screened for alcohol poisoning at the hospital, Ms. Butler spit in the face of a police officer several times.

Police received a call that a woman was passed out in a vehicle that drove off the road and onto the curb in front of 150 Main Street, according to the arrest report. The report states that the responding officer found that the 2004 Subaru was still running, and Ms. Butler was “slumped over the steering wheel with an open half empty bottle of Smirnoff Vodka sticking out of a black purse in the front passenger street.”

At the scene, Sag Harbor Volunteer Ambulance personnel cleared Ms. Butler of any medical issues, but her breath smelled strongly of alcohol, her eyes were watery and bloodshot and she was unable to make complete sentences, police said, adding that she was unable to stand without assistance.

She was taken to Sag Harbor Village Police headquarters for a breath test to determine her blood alcohol level, then officers requested an ambulance to take her to Southampton Hospital for possible alcohol poisoning. When she returned from the hospital, she spit in the face of the arresting officer several times, for which the officer sought medical attention at the hospital, according to police. She was taken back to the hospital later Monday night to be treated for alcohol withdrawal. She had been scheduled to be arraigned in Sag Harbor Village Justice Court on Tuesday morning.

Police added that a search of her purse turned up 14 pills, one of which was prednisone, and the rest were anti-anxiety medication.

Ms. Butler, 46, of Winnetka, California, was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated and seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, both misdemeanors, as well as second-degree harassment, a violation.
