Southampton Town bay constables rescued George "Skip" Tollefsen, the former owner of the Lobster Inn, after his boat overturned in Shinnecock Inlet on Wednesday morning.Southampton Town Police said a report of an overturned 15-foot Boston Whaler was called in at 8:11 a.m. on Wednesday, and when the bay constables arrived, they found Mr. Tollefsen of Hampton Bays in the water, wearing a life jacket and hanging on to the front rail of the Boston Whaler.Mr. Tollefsen was alone, police noted, and was able to be pulled out of the water. He was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was treated for exhaustion.Along with the bay constables, Southampton Town Police, the U.S. Coast Guard and Southampton Village Police responded to the scene to assist. The rough seas made it difficult to recover the Boston Whaler from the water, and it was left adrift. The U.S. Coast Guard issued a notice on the VHF Channel 16, letting boaters know of the boat’s existence, along with its location and direction of travel.Calls to Southampton Town Police seeking additional information were not immediately returned.
