Voters approved the Rogers Memorial Library’s budget on Friday and three trustees were elected to the board. Of the 246 votes cast, 205 voted in favor of the budget (173 in the Southampton School District and 32 in the Tuckahoe School District). Residents voted on a tax levy of $5,457,941 for the 2026 operating year. Catherine Carver Dunn, Kimberly A. Halsey and Robert Iovino were elected to the trustee positions.

The Quogue Association’s beloved Annual Duck Race is set to return on Friday, August 8, beginning at 6 p.m. Rubber ducks will launch from the Quogue Bridge and drift toward the Quogue Dock, where the festivities will continue with live music, refreshments, and snacks. The event is a fundraiser open to all; cash prizes will be awarded to the winning ducks. Rubber ducks may be purchased in advance at The Quogue Shop and the Quogue Library. Thank you for your front-page report on the Remsenburg-Speonk School District’s mismanagement of surplus funds over the past five years [“Remsenburg-Speonk School District Responds to Comptroller’s Office Audit That Claims District Did Not Properly Manage Fund Balance,” 27east.com, July 29]. How else would we have learned about this? According to New York State regulations, school budget surpluses cannot exceed 4 percent a year.
