Southampton Town will embark on a wholesale renovation and redesign of the Red Creek Skate Park this month and is looking for members of the community who would like to be involved in helping craft the new designs.
The town has budgeted $1.25 million for the park renovation in 2025, as it looks to remove components of the nearly 25-year-old skate park that are deteriorating and would need significant investments to repair in favor of new features that may be better used by skaters.
Currently, the park contains a half pipe, bowl and smaller launch ramps constructed primarily from wood framing topped with Skatelite, a smooth weatherproof surfacing material.
The renovation plans call for any new features to be constructed out of concrete, as was done for the celebrated renovation of the Montauk Skate Park in 2023.
Town crews will begin demolishing the deteriorating skate park features this month.
The Red Creek Skate Park was built in 2001.
The town hopes to have the new park built and open to skaters by the fall of 2025.
The town is also constructing a new bike trail that will link Red Creek Park to Good Ground Park with 2 miles of on-road and off-road trails.
Anyone who wishes to be involved in the process of designing the new skate park is asked to email the town’s parks department at ParksAndRec@southamptontownny.gov with contact info.
