Attention, Hampton Bays residents, regarding a Route 24 extension: There was a public hearing at Town Hall recently, and no one showed up, pro or con, about this proposal. It has received negative comments before on this and at other Hampton Bays sites. However, those comments don’t count, since they are not on the record.
If we don’t speak up on the record, we will get this road whether we want it or not. Your comments are needed this week. And, hopefully, you can show up at next week’s Town Board meeting. You can do both.
There is only one public comment period left on this proposal. That is the Town Board meeting on Tuesday, July 13, at 1 p.m. Meetings are open to the public now, so people should go in person. Also, the record is open for written comments. Please let your voices be heard.
If you cannot attend this meeting, you can submit comments for the public record to the town clerk at: townclerk@southamptontownny.gov.
Please spread the word if you care about this issue.

A recent Letter to the Editor by the Very Reverend Abraham A.J. Miller [“Fighting Our Fight,” Letters, November 23] reminds us of past historical commitments and makes the case that Ukraine is fighting our fight against Russia, and U.S. funding...

Today’s headlines covering the anti-Israel, pro-Hamas demonstrations across the country in cities and on many a campus are eerily reminiscent of my youth in the late 1960s. Anti-Vietnam sentiment divided us who were being conscripted to prosecute a war we...
It’s exciting to hear that the first of 12 wind turbines has been installed to provide clean energy for eastern Long Island. The turbines will catch the steady breezes 35 miles out, invisible from the beach. While good news, South...
