The East Hampton girls indoor track team kept busy over the holiday break by going to the St. Anthony’s Developmental Meet on December 23 and then the Art Mitchell Class Meet at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood on Saturday.

Liana Paradiso and Danielle Futerman took the highest placements for the Lady Bonackers at St. Anthony’s. Futerman reached her school record of 8 feet 6 inches in the pole vault, which placed her fourth, while Paradiso finished the 3,000-meter race in 11:54.40, which placed her fourth as well. Caroline Jungck finished fifth in the same race in 11:54.72.

Allura Leggard ran to a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash in 28.12 seconds. Jungck, Paradiso, Sophia Swanson and Lucy Emptage placed ninth in the 4x800-meter relay in 11:16.14.

Christine Malecki made her season debut at the Art Mitchell Meet after dealing with a foot injury for the first half of the season. She threw the shot put 26 feet 2½ inches for a new personal best. Phoebe Miller also threw a personal best, 19 feet 8 inches.

Sabrina Ricci placed fourth in the sophomore long jump with a leap of 14 feet 2 inches. Gabby McKay increased her school record in the long jump, reaching 15 feet 4 inches in the open long jump, which placed her 11th.

Swanson finished fifth in the sophomore 1,000-meter race in 3:22.53; Elizabeth Bistrian placed sixth in the sophomore 300-meter dash in 45.50 seconds, Miller finished in a personal-best 52.18 seconds, while Ana Toledo ran a season’s best 51.02 seconds; the 4x200-meter relay team of McKay, Leggard, Lina Bistrian and Lateshia Peters finished fifth in 1:57.14; Paradiso finished ninth in the sophomore 1,500-meter race in 5:39.19; Leggard placed 10th in the open 55-meter dash in 7.76 seconds; and Jungck placed 10th in the freshman 3,000-meter race in 11:48.60.

The East Hampton boys and girls indoor track teams are expected to be split this Saturday, January 9. Half of the team could go to The Armory in New York City for the Hispanic Games, while the other half will be going to another St. Anthony’s Developmental Meet.

Boys

The Bonackers were fairly quiet over the break, with only a crossover meet on Saturday at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood with a limited group.

Erik Engstrom won the 1,600-meter race in 4:27.74, beating out Miller Place’s Brendan Murphy by just a second. Head coach Bill Herzog said Engstrom went out a little fast to start the race and maybe kept his momentum going for too long as he lost some gas by the end. Still, he said it was a good win for Engstrom, who is ranked second in the county now.

Robert Weiss returned to the track after dealing with plantar fasciitis for most of the season. He competed in the 55-meter dash, where he placed 11th in 7.10 seconds, and the 300-meter dash, where he placed 28th overall in 40.97 seconds. Weiss would need to get a few more meets under his belt to qualify for counties and the state qualifier, which Herzog is optimistic will happen.
