A number of student-athletes from Hampton Bays and Westhampton Beach have earned postseason awards for their outstanding efforts this past fall season.
Hampton Bays
Members of the boys soccer team took home several awards with their return to the playoffs after an 8-7-1 campaign. Dylan Flores and Roberto Orellana were both named All-Conference players while Kaheim Amos and Cristian Loaiza were tapped as All-League. Orellana also recorded an assist in the Nassau/Suffolk Senior All-Star Game. Daniel Brenes was recognized as Academic All-County.
The football team went 4-4 to earn a postseason berth. Josh Aube and Colin Smith were named All-County while Juan Arango, Mike Delrey and Tom O’Shea were tapped as First Team All-Division. Nico Antieri, Dylan Durand and Riley McNamara were Second Team All-Division selections.
Even though the field hockey team did not win a game in its return to varsity competition following a season of JV ball, members of the squad still earned honors. Vanessa Farrell and Elif Kalyoncu were recognized as All-Conference players, Karla Solano as All-Division and Sarah Fassino was presented with the Unsung Hero Award.
Kaylee Catena led the gymnastics team, which took second in League III, by finishing All-County in the bars, beam and floor. Sammy Cooper was All-League, Elisabeth Daniels was All-League and a Scholar-Athlete, and Sydney Caldwell was All-League and also won the all-around event at the invitational meet. Veronica Maslowska earned an All-League honorable mention.
Christina Coulton was a First Team All-League runner for the girls cross country team. Chloe Haynes was recognized as Second Team All-League. And Jack Sheridan earned All-League honors for the boys cross country team.
Olivia Lofstad was the lone postseason award recipient for the girls volleyball team, nabbing All-League honors. Mackenzie Tyler and Sean Noonan were All-League golfers. Tennis players Ivana Ocampos and Juliana Gutierrez earned All-League honors while Anna Harris was presented with the Sportsmanship Award.
Westhampton Beach
It was a banner season for the football team. After going 7-1 during the regular season, the Hurricanes advanced to the Suffolk County Division III semifinals, where they fell to eventual county champion East Islip.
Dylan Laube had a season to remember, rushing for more than 2,150 yards on his way to winning the Joe Cipp Jr. Award that is presented annually to the best running back in Suffolk County. He was also a finalist for the Carl A. Hansen Award, given to the top overall player in the county. Also, Laube was named to Newsday’s All-Long Island First Team, and also earned All-County and All-Division honors.
But Laube wasn’t the only award-winner for the Canes. Ryan Wagner was named All-County, First Team All-Division, and made the National Football Foundation Golden 11 as one of the top 11 scholar athletes in the county. Anthony Strippoli earned All-County and First Team All-Division recognition while Zach Arrasate, Tristan Hogan, Nery Luna, Liam McIntyre and Chris Merle were each tapped as First Team All-Division. Additionally, Ralph Amitrano, Sal DiBenedetto and Scott Rementer were named Second Team All-Division.
The boys soccer team reached the playoffs after going 8-6 in League V competition and lost a heart-breaker in the opening round of the playoffs, falling to Wyandanch in a shootout. Jay Brezinski was named All-County and All-Conference, and also set up a goal in the Nassau/Suffolk Senior All-Star Game. Phil Daleo was All-Conference, and Riley Smith and Will Tucker were both named All-League. Daniel Purkis was recognized as Academic All-County.
Jill Mapley helped lead the girls soccer team to a 5-9 record. She was named Fifth Team All-State and All-County. Cassidy Canberg and McKinley Skala earned All-League recognition.
The girls volleyball team advanced to the county finals for the third consecutive year after winning the League VI regular-season title. Camryn Bancroft was Fifth Team All-State, All-County and also named the League VI Player of the Year. Sarena Choi was All-County and Academic All-County. Isabelle Smith was recognized as the League VI Defensive Player of the Year and All-Class A. Bancroft, Choi and Smith were also named to the All-County Tournament Team. Shannon Hewlett, Emma Marino and Brittney Paladino were each named All-League. And Dana Kuroski was named League VI JV Coach of the Year.
Tom Lambert led the 5-10 boys volleyball team in the fall, earning All-County honors for his efforts. Ryan Haber, John Sganga and Jack Seeliger were All-Division honorable mentions. Lambert and Seeliger were also recognized as Academic-All County with Seeliger also earning Academic Elite All-County status.
Jack Ryan won the county title and reached the New York State Cross Country Championships for the first time. He added the Section XI Sportsmanship Award to his All-County, All-Division and All-League statuses. Caleb Mason, Kieran Ryan and Comeragh Sheehan were named All-League. Jackie Amato and Jenny Jordan were All-League for the girls team.
Juliet Tomaro and Rose Peruso earned All-County honors for their efforts on the tennis court. Rieve Delisle, Helena Jones and Marin Vander Schaaf were All-League and Emma Bender earned the Sportsmanship Award. And Thatcher Cord, Jake Viera and Mackenzie Kim were recognized as All-League golfers as their team qualified as All-County by placing in the top six at the Section XI Championships.
