Incumbent Dr. Robby Stein and political newcomer Bruce Stafford emerged victorious from the Sag Harbor Village Board race on Tuesday.

Dr. Stein garnered 358 votes and Mr. Stafford had 278 while candidate Ryan Horn, the third candidate in the race for two seats, fell short with 230 votes.

The terms for Dr. Stein, a child psychologist, and Mr. Stafford, a landscaper, will run for two years. Dr. Stein was appointed to the board last year to complete the term of Brian Gilbride, who was elected mayor.

“I’m going to sit back and learn from the experts,” Mr. Stafford said following the election, which was held from noon to 9 p.m. at the Sag Harbor Fire Department headquarters on Brick Kiln Road.

With another two years in office, Dr. Stein has plenty of time to complete his current projects, such as the new Sag Harbor Village website. The “beta” version of the site will be unveiled this week, he said.

“I hope to bring together the business and cultural community,” he said.

Mr. Horn, who is a citizen advocate at Southampton Town Hall, said that although he lost this election, he has many other opportunities before him.

“At 29, this isn’t the end of everything,” he said. “There are plenty of opportunities.”

Mr. Horn noted that two of the seats on the Sag Harbor Village Board will be vacant next year as will seats on the Town Board.

North Haven

There were no surprises in the uncontested North Haven Village Election held Tuesday night.

Incumbent Mayor Laura Nolan and incumbent Trustee George Butts reclaimed their seats by earning 67 and 66 votes respectively. Newcomer Dianne Skilbred had 68 votes, securing the seat vacated by Trustee James Morrisey. Mr. Morrisey decided this year not to run again.

The terms to which Ms. Nolan, Mr. Butts and Ms. Skilbred were elected are two years long.

Fractures Showing on Southampton Village Board Over Issues Like Meeting Agendas, Records Release, Workforce Housing and More

There was a period of time, not too long ago, when the Southampton Village Board could be counted on to pass almost any resolution or legislation with a 5-0 vote. It happened so frequently, in fact, that many residents began to question if that kind of uniformity of thought was healthy for the village, or if it was a sign that the art of dissent had been lost, along with a willingness to thoughtfully examine both sides of any given issue. One thing’s been made clear in the second half of the calendar year — that period of smooth sailing ... 12 Dec 2025 by Cailin Riley

Dear Neighbor

Congratulations on your new windows. They certainly are big. They certainly are see-through. You must be thrilled with the way they removed even more of that wall and replaced it with glass. It must make it easier to see what is going on in your house even when the internet is down. And security is everything. Which explains the windows. Nothing will make you feel more secure than imagining yourself looking over the rear-yard setback from these massive sheets of structural glass. Staring at the wall has well-known deleterious impact, and windows the size of movie screens are the bold ... 11 Dec 2025 by Marilee Foster
