Stanley Glinka Jr. of Southampton died on April 19, 2017, at Southampton Hospital. He was 83.
Mr. Glinka was born on November 1, 1933, at the family home on Elm Street in Southampton, to Stanley and Felicia Glinka. He graduated from Southampton High School in 1952. After high school graduation, he graduated from the RCA Institute in New York City. He then served his country in the U.S. Army as a microwave specialist during the Korean War. After his discharge from the Army, he was hired by New York Telephone Company and began a long career of 39 years, retiring in 1995. He ended his career as area manager for eastern Long Island, from Patchogue to Montauk on the South Shore and Port Jefferson to Greenport on the North Shore.
Mr. Glinka was very active in his community. He became a member of the Southampton Fire Department in 1969 and served as secretary-treasurer of the Benevolent Committee for 28 years. He was also a member of the Scholarship Committee. He became an Exempt Member of the Fire Department in 2005. He was a senior member and a past founder member at Southampton Golf Club, where he served on the Board of Directors for 15 years and was vice president for six. In 1969 he was elected to the Tuckahoe School Board, serving for 16 years, including terms as president and vice president. He was also a past member of the Parish Council at the Basilica of Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary. He was a lifelong member of the VFW.
On September 14, 1957, he married Kathleen Jeffards of Southampton, who survives him as do his children, Marie Glinka of East Moriches and Stan Glinka of Hampton Bays.
Besides his parents, his is predeceased by two brothers, Frank and Henry. He is survived by a sister, Jean Kalish of Bridgehampton; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations may be made to the Southampton Hospital Foundation, the Southampton Fire Department Benevolent Association, or the Southampton Village Volunteer Ambulance.
Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the O’Connell Funeral Home in Southampton.
