Stop The Negativity

Must this newspaper continue to print letters attacking Joe McLoughlin, who has had the courage and conviction to run for Southampton Village trustee? What has this decent man ever done to be bombarded week after week in his local paper?

In the letter “Make the Choice” [August 20], it is stated that he has “no prior experience as a leader” — but he serves on the Planning Board. It says that he does not pay taxes — but he and his family have been paying taxes here for decades. It says that he does not have prior work experience, which is also not true.

It also finally says that he only writes letters — not stating that he serves on a committee at the Southampton History Museum, and he helped to start our Village Revitalization Committee, and he attends many, many village meetings and events.

Joe has overcome extraordinary challenges all of his life, and I am honored to know him. We would be fortunate to have him continue his efforts on behalf of us all, and we all need to join together from this point on to stop the negativity that is the hallmark of this and other local campaigns.
