An odd looking structure that appeared in the ocean off Southampton Village Wednesday morning was actually a sea-going vessel, the Lacie Eymard.
It is an elevator platform owned by Offshore Marine Contractors that has been working for the last two years on the construction of the five wind turbines erected in the ocean off Block Island.
The vessel is in transit back to its home port in the Gulf of Mexico, but parked off Southampton this week to wait out stormy seas expected Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
The Lacie Eymard is capable of anchoring its elevated work platform in up to 200 feet of water.
