A Pre-K student at the Eleanor Whitmore Early Childhood Center in East Hampton has tested positive for COVID-189.
On Friday, October 16, parents and caregivers were alerted that Springs School District had advised center officials of a positive case. In a letter to parents and caregivers, executive director Tim Frazier said the center would be following specific protocols and guidance for containment.
The affected class will quarantine for 14 days, every family in the class has been notified. The letter notes that if a family hasn’t been notified, their child’s class was not affected.
“We are following protocols with an abundance of caution,” the letter Mr. Frazier notes. “Nothing is more important to us than the health and safety of the children, staff and families.”
Custodial staff will disinfect the building and East Hampton School District employees, who maintain the center will follow the same sanitizing protocols used at John M. Marshall Elementary School when it closed temporarily due to a positive case several weeks ago.
The center has been following strict cohort procedures that keep classrooms separate and isolated from each other, Mr Frazier’s letter emphasizes. “Please know that we are taking this case very seriously and are acting with a sense of urgency around containment and notification.”
As of Saturday, all other classrooms will be open on Monday. The health department determined there was no need to close the entire facility.
