Cellphone emergency alerts went out on Monday night November 27 due to an issue with at least one cell phone carrier “that is causing disruptions to 911 call service” at 911 call centers in Suffolk County.
The Suffolk County Police Department is urging residents in need of 911 service to call 631-852-COPS if they get a busy signal after dialing the three-digit emergency number. That number will provide prompts to direct residents to their local police jurisdiction.
“The department is working to identify and rectify the issue as quickly as possible,” said the SCPD in a release, “and there has been no disruption to emergency services being dispatched as a result of the issue.”
