Suffolk Life, a free weekly newspaper based in Riverhead that began publication in 1961, will be closing its doors after next Wednesday’s issue, according to a staff member at the newspaper.
The operator at the newspaper’s office confirmed that next week’s issue will be Suffolk Life’s last and referred comments to newsroom staff, who in turn said that they were “not at liberty to comment” and referred comment to General Manager Irl Krause, who did not return calls before deadline.
According to the paper’s website, “Suffolk Life Newspapers has 35 editions and it is the largest weekly paper east of the Mississippi, with total circulation of more than 545,000 copies reaching Suffolk County homes each week.”
The newspaper has been published since its inception by David J. Willmott.
