I am a volunteer at Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, and I see the valuable work they do. The Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, open-admission, no-kill shelter that relies on the generosity of donors to care for the homeless animals in our community. Last year alone, the shelter rescued and found homes for 768 dogs, cats, bunnies and a host of other animals.
Southampton Town eliminated the shelter in 2010, and Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation was formed. We provide animals with housing, food, medical treatment, training and rehabilitation until their forever homes are found. Eighty percent of our animals come from Southampton Town. We don’t say no, to any animal. The foundation’s dedicated staff takes good care of our rescues — they are truly loved.
Each week, either in the paper or online, there are stories or ads for animal rescue fundraisers in the Hamptons, and while these are all wonderful and worthy rescues, they are not located in the Hamptons.
In addition to daily operating expenses, the foundation is in need of funds, as we are currently undertaking a capital fund drive to raise $500,000 to update our very outdated facility. Please consider making a donation to your local shelter: Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation, 102 Old Riverhead Road West, Hampton Bays, NY 11946.
