Are there any Southampton Press readers who might have the option of reregistering to vote in New York City? I just did. So much rides on this election. No matter whom you prefer, you should vote. The public library has the form.
I prefer Mayor Eric Adams. Unlike Andrew Cuomo, Adams is part of a solution, not another problem. And he can out-bench-press Zo.
As a former NYPD officer and New York State senator, Adams took on an enormous task. Thousands and thousands of immigrants flooded New York. Adams didn’t ask for the immigrants, even going to Washington, D.C., demanding reimbursement. Yet his team still treated each immigrant with compassion and dignity. On all fronts, Adams has persevered and is leading the city in the right direction.
I’m happy that my Chelsea neighborhood hasn’t experienced street riots, ripping and robbing our stores and us since the DeBlasio days. Adams has the backing of the NYPD. I’m also thankful that Adams is upgrading the neighborhood’s Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Housing. The lives of thousands of my neighbors will be uplifted, as will mine.
Yet, as a member of Villager Preservation, I find it disturbing that the city is planning to tear down the national landmarked Tony Dapolito Recreation Center, not even saving its facade. The quandary we face when voting.
