Susan Dowe Brown of Bridgehampton died on July 8 at Southampton Hospital. She was 69.
Born on September 8, 1946, in Providence, Rhode Island, she was the daughter of Betty and Marshall Dowe. She moved to Manhattan to work as a flight attendant for Pan American Airlines, after graduating from the University of Nebraska.
During her frequent visits to South America, Europe, and Asia, she developed a passion for international travel that remained throughout her life. She married Donald F. Brown in 1971 and later moved to Greenwich, Connecticut. The couple had two children, Peter and Kirsten.
From 1987 to 2000, the family lived internationally in Hong Kong, Japan and Canada. In 1999, she and her husband moved to Bridgehampton, where she enjoyed volunteering for the Bridgehampton Association, gardening, reading, and spending time at the beach.
Survivors said she will be remembered by family and friends for her effortless elegance, passion for art and literature, and gentle compassion to those around her.
Ms. Brown is survived by her husband of 44 years, Donald Brown; a daughter, Kirsten Dowe Brady and husband Sean; a son, Peter Brown and wife Elly; grandson, Emmet Brown; and a sister, Marcia Clark.
A private memorial service will be held in Bridgehampton. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Brockett Funeral Home in Southampton.
