FLANDERS — Omar Brown, 44, of Riverhead was arrested shortly before 7 a.m. on July 16 and charged with driving while impaired by drugs, a misdemeanor, after a Southampton Town Police officer pulled him over for a traffic violation and determined that he had been smoking marijuana. The Suffolk County Water Authority has announced that it would receive its first payment as part of a nationwide class-action lawsuit against the 3M Company, a manufacturer of PFAS, which are often referred to as “forever chemicals,” because they do not break down over time. The chemicals have polluted Long Island’s sole-source aquifer, and SCWA will receive part of a $10.5 billion settlement involving thousands of water providers across the country.
