Why on earth are the streets around Gin Lane — like Christopher, Wyandanch, Foster Crossing and Huntting (and probably several others) — suddenly “No Parking” areas?
It used to be that if a village resident or visitor to our town couldn’t get a space at one of the village beaches, it was possible to park on a nearby street and walk a bit to the beach. It’s crazy to have those beautiful, wide streets closed off to the few who used to take advantage of the chance to enjoy our beaches (with or without a sticker) on days when the parking lots were full, not to mention how selfish and entitled it makes our neighbors on those streets appear.
Could we really so unnecessarily deny people access to the beaches that make Southampton so special? How does it hurt anyone to have a car parked for a few hours on their street?
Let’s try to be a little kinder and a little more considerate of others who only wish to enjoy what we have been blessed with here. We are so lucky. Let’s take down those ridiculous signs.
