Tax

Tax And SpendThe news article this week mentioned the repaving proposal to the state for the entire length of 114 from the ferry to East Hampton [“Officials Want 114 Repaved,” October 3].

Surely, there are sections that are badly in need of repair, but there are also long stretches that are in excellent condition, specifically in North Haven.

State income taxes are no longer deductible on our federal tax returns, a major tax burden to the vast majority of New Yorkers. Frugality and wisdom should be the call words for state spending.

The unused Route 27 turnaround, which cost in excess of $1 million, is a great example of ‘tax and spend.’

Repaving over good sections of road is another.
