Tell Us Something

I write because of the cavalier fashion in which Lidl supermarkets has treated the people of Westhampton Beach and vicinity, and doubtless other centers where it had plans to open.

About three-quarters of the way through 2020, we learned, in a blaze of publicity, that Lidl would be taking over the Best Market supermarket chain. We saw no details. We later heard from Best Market that the store would be closed for six months for alterations, painful for year-round residents but understandable — alterations in the offseason.

Now, in a conversation with Lidl customer care, we are told that there is no information at all about the opening of our supermarket, not even a projected date.

Lidl has made no effort, since the initial announcement, to keep its potential customers informed of its intentions and progress. There seems to have been no use of print or other media, no mass mailing, no effort to reveal, let alone publicize, its timetable for the opening of the various stores, no periodic updates.

We have no idea about how the Lidl store will differ from Best Market, which served the community perfectly satisfactorily.

The impression is left that Lidl itself doesn’t know what it is doing.

Pathetic
