Terrible Representative

“Ban Religious Tyranny” [Letters, October 17] was a poor choice of The Press opinion staff for the headline on the Klausners’ letter last week decrying their anger over a despicable anonymous letter they received from a severely misguided individual who accused them of infanticide.

I sympathize with their anger and with the difficult health issue their ailing and pregnant daughter had to confront. The health of the mother was clearly in danger, and I wish this situation on no one.

But the narrative then drifts into the politics of our day, regarding how to balance the health and rights of a pregnant woman with the life of the unborn. This was, no doubt, an emotional topic for them, triggering a strongly worded diatribe that lost my empathy as it became a cudgel meant to score political points for the Southampton Democratic Committee, who never miss an opportunity to get on their soapbox.

The Democrat argument that daughters, as mothers-to-be, will be left without medical care even if in a state without limitations on abortions is extremely unlikely and I’m sure will have our nation’s lawyers ready to exploit any medical malfeasance. The Klausners mentioned the unfortunate instance in Georgia, where a necessary abortion was not performed in a timely fashion, thus the complications were “preventable.”

Unfortunately, upon examination, it was medical malpractice and not legal limitation that encumbered a successful outcome. The inevitable blame from Democrats for all things they don’t like falls on MAGA Americans and Donald Trump.

“Trump Derangement Syndrome” is an overused but accurate diagnosis for the lack of introspection and self-examination by so many otherwise good people. They have been fed a ridiculous bucket of excuses for why they are finding themselves more and more out of step with Americans of every race, creed and color. Women’s issues, including reproductive freedom, family education, family health care and gender confusion, are all boiling up, fueled by Democrat rejection of traditional values across the nation.

Republicans are not at war with our women. It is the other way around.

Kamala Harris is a terrible representative of the fairer sex. She is the textbook example of the substitution of diversity for quality in our politics. In spite of a record $1 billion donated and spent on her candidacy, her weakness for a substantive understanding of the issues that the next president must confront are shockingly quite evident.

Locally, the John Avalon supporters flog him as the next coming of — whatever? The simple truth is on local issues: He will be no better or worse than Nick LaLota. Nationally, however, if part of a Democratic congressional majority, he will do great harm to the country.

Elections have consequences.
