The Christmas Village

On November 27, the holiday season kicked off in Southampton Village with a record number of spectators at the 25th annual Fire Truck Parade of Lights, followed by the annual tree lighting in Agawam Park, and concluding with a spectacularly beautiful fireworks display that lit up the night sky.

Sponsored each year by the Christmas Decorations Committee, this event would not be possible without the support of so many, including the village’s Highway, Parks and Maintenance departments, Fowler’s Garden Center, Southampton High School’s singers from VOSH and MOSH, and the Southampton Chamber of Commerce. The various fire departments, along with Southampton Volunteer Ocean Rescue and Southampton Volunteer Ambulance, delighted the crowds with their imaginatively decorated rigs.

A very special thank you to the Southampton Village Police Department and, in particular, Sergeant Dave Dorchak, who worked directly with our committee and did an outstanding job of crowd control, providing a safe environment for everyone to enjoy.

Finally, our thanks to the village merchants and to all those whose donations each year enable us to create Southampton, the Christmas Village, and continue this time-honored tradition that was started by this year’s honorees, Bill and Ann Yawney, 46 years ago.

Wishing everyone a joyous holiday season and a happy and healthy new year.
