On behalf of everyone at Fighting Chance, I am writing to express our heartfelt condolences to the family of Joan Tyor Carlson, recently deceased. Joan was a true pillar of this community.
When Fighting Chance first started, in 2002, we were blessed to have Joan as one of our first directors. She served in that role until 2008.
As the charity’s founder, I was especially grateful for Joan’s ceaseless optimism, energy and steadfast belief that our charity was meeting a community need and would be successful so long as we all put in the hard work.
During our early years, Joan was one of the hardest workers of all.
Joan, we will miss you.

Seems like unless we are native to Paumanok, we have immigrated to what is now called Long Island. My grandparents on my mother’s side arrived to New York from Ireland in 1913, escaping from labor disputes, violence and a fallen...

This June, Southampton Village residents will have the opportunity to choose the direction of our village. The choice is simple. Does the village want a 5-0 super-majority controlled and backed by one powerful, wealthy group and association? Or does it...
As we prepare to cast our vote in the upcoming election, I feel it important to recall the defining incident in the recent mayoral term and reflect upon it before making any decision. What happened that night was quite simply...
There is a supervisor named Jay who said Bel-Aire will come down in a day and you will see the beautiful bay, but (five years later) in the light, a terrible sight, all you can see is blight. Jim Dreeben...
Whatever happens with this Marsden vote, I’ll be happy to move on. Did we forget that it’s okay to disagree without being disagreeable? Running our schools is a complex endeavor. The board members are volunteers. They spent countless (thankless) hours...
Before anyone votes yes on an increase in the sales tax to fund more clean water plans [“Lawmakers, Water ‘Czar’ Pitch Clean Water Plan at Summit in Southampton,” 27east.com, May 10], I would draw their attention to an April 15,...
