The Old Days

I just came from the remarkably contentious public hearing about the landlord-tenant registry proposed by Mayor Jesse Warren and the Southampton Village trustees to help village residents collect their rental money in advance.

What’s that to fight about?

From 1960 to 1982, I rented 21 Elm Street from Helen Hudson for the summer. We had no lawyer, no broker. Just two decent women giving their word and keeping it. Gee!

Of course, in those days, we also left our doors open when we went to the beach.
