The Other Side

I found your article entitled “New Facility Could Be Big For Shinnecock” [Business, July 16] to be deeply disturbing on many levels — mainly because it did not highlight in its placement or its headline that the “facility” would be for the sale of marijuana. Furthermore, the article did not have any interviews or quotes from tribal or village residents, or our various spiritual, educational and elected leaders, who might not think that this is a good idea.

Is it in the best interests of the reservation and the rest of our community to have a medical marijuana dispensary, available to anyone with a “card,” with the aim of eventually providing recreational marijuana? And why in the world would the newspaper not report or cover the viewpoints of those who might not support this endeavor or what the negative effects of this could be on our youth and the East End at large?
